PCVC Full Form: Central Venous Catheter Medical Guide
In critical care medicine, anesthesiology, and clinical neonatology, the acronym PCVC stands for Percutaneous Central Venous Catheter (commonly known as a Central Venous Catheter or central line). It is a specialized, long, flexible biocompatible medical catheter inserted percutaneously into a large central vein—most frequently the internal jugular vein, subclavian vein, or femoral vein. The catheter tip advances until it rests in the lower third of the superior vena cava (SVC) near the cavoatrial junction, enabling the administration of caustic medications, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), continuous central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring, and rapid fluid resuscitation.
